Candy Votes

We were driving yesterday and passed a car that had the three passengers holding lawn signs for the Green Party Candidate for Governor of Illinois Rich Whitney.

My little guy asked what the signs were.

I told him they were for a candidate for Governor. The man wanted people to vote for him on election day.

He said I shouldn’t vote on election day and I asked him why.

He said he doesn’t like the big Tootsie Rolls. I asked what that had to do with election day.

He said it was the Candy Vote and he didn’t want me to vote for the Tootsie Rolls.

He heard Candy Vote instead of Candidate and vote…

Ah well, he’s not quite six.

Her lampshade collar looks so like the bowl of a martini glass that I had to make her a pimento stuffed olive to go with it…

Oh, and the thing sticking out of the olive is a toothpick…

Our village has trick-or-treating tomorrow afternoon.

Don’t forget to set the clocks back!

Welcome Electric Venom and Wizbang! readers. Thanks Kate and Lorie. Please have a look around.

CNN – How Low Can it Go?

I was flipping through the channels while having dinner and noticed Lynn Cheney on Wolf Blitzer. It was pretty obvious Wolf had her on under the pretext of discussing her new book, but in fact he was attempting to score points – Democrat talking points that is – by suggesting that Lynn Cheney’s previous book Sisters was akin to Webb’s now notorious writings.

Not only did she handle herself well (she got poor Wolf to sheepishly admit he wanted America to win the war on terror after scolding him for the sniper segment), but the comparison itself showed just how far into never never land CNN is willing to go for the Dems.

OC Chronicle also saw the segment and was able find the reference to “lesbianism” in Sisters Wolf was attempting to compare to Webb’s writings.

Lets see how fair of a comparison it is:

Webb explicitly refers to a father placing his son’s penis in his mouth. On another occasion he writes of woman slicing bananas with her vagina.

Versus Lynn Cheney who writes about……two women embracing.

On one hand we have two women embracing, and on the other hand we have a fruit slicing vagina and incestuous pedophilia.

CNN…fair…..balanced……the “most trusted name in news”.

Voter Photo ID – Bumped

Quick Poll:

If asked, can you produce a photo ID at the polls?

Free polls from

I’ll keep the poll up through the weekend.

Update (10/27): So far there are 6 votes and all six voted yes, the voter can produce a photo ID if asked at the polls. This is completely unscientific, but I think that, of actual voters, the number that can produce an ID, while not 100%, is closer to 100% than the percentage opponents of Voter ID laws would have you believe.

Remember This?

Back in October 2004, Vice Presidential Aspirant and Candidate John Edwards in Newton, IA said

[Reeve, who died Sunday], “was a powerful voice for the need to do stem cell research and change the lives of people like him.

“If we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve will get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.”

Once again Stem Cell Research and Therapy is being conflated with Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

My daughter has epilepsy, developmental delays, and has recently been diagnosed with Lupus as well. Stem cell research may one day prove a benefit to her. Adult or cord blood stem cells.

The Anchoress notes that there are 72 successful applications with adult stem cell therapies and 0 embryonic therapies.

There are NO bans on stem cell research of any stripe. Federal (and only Federal) funding of embryonic stem cell research is currently limited to existing stem cell lines. There is nothing to prevent private funding of new lines. Nothing other than success rates in embryonic stem cell research. Private funding brings with it hopes of a return on investment. Federal funding needs no such guarantees.

Appeal to Sympathy is a logical fallacy no matter who the sympathetic figure is.

You Said It, Joe

Chris Wallace: Very briefly Senator Biden, what’s at stake?

Joe Biden: If the Democrats regain control you’re going to see 12-14 Republicans freed up to to go out and join in a bipartisan way to tell the President we are seriously off course.

If the democrats don’t make gains, it’ll be a reaffirmation that, for this administration “stay the course” and I believe that would be a disaster.

Chris Wallace
: And you think there are a dozen Republicans chomping at the bit?

Joe Biden: I think, I know that there are at least three that approached me before we left.

[ed: All emphasis mine]

Joe, you said it. If the Democrats don’t make gains the current administration is right to stay the course it is currently on. It’s a mandate. You said gains too, not just control of either or both houses, gains…

What will you say on November 8th?

Also, Joe, how do you get “12-14 Republicans” from “at least three”? Oh, must have used that methodology from the Lancet study on deaths in Iraq…
