Happy St. Patrick's Day!

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Resurrection Rolls

We went to Target today to get the two main ingredients, marshmallows and Pillsbury crescent rolls. Somehow the crescent rolls did not make it home although they did make it onto the receipt. Ah, well. It happens. I’ll pick up some more crescent rolls later in the week when I pick up some milk. The kids and I will be making these on Holy Saturday.

So, gather together:

pb_crescents

a package of Pillsbury crescent rolls (the regular size that makes 8 rolls)
8 regular sized (not mini) marshmallows
melted butter (a couple of tablespoons)
    cinnamon
    sugar

Preheat the oven to 350°F

sugarcinn1.jpgMix the cinnamon and sugar together to taste, the mixture you would use on toast, or buy one of Domino Sugar’s Sugar and Cinnamon shakers to use.

Dip the marshmallows in the butter and roll in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. This represents anointing Christ’s body in oil and spices.

Place the coated marshmallow on a triangle of crescent roll and pull the sides up and crimp/pinch shut. Don’t roll as you would ordinarily. This represents wrapping Christ’s body in the shroud.

Once the rolls are complete, place on a cookie sheet (use a piece of foil on top to save on cleanup) and bake for 10-12 minutes. The oven represents the tomb. Just pretend the time was three days.

After the rolls are out of the oven and have cooled, break them open and see that the marshmallow (Christ) is not there. The shroud shrouds no one.

He is Risen, He is Risen indeed!

IEATAPETA Day

It’s time once again for International Eat a Tasty Animal for PETA (IEATAPETA) day!

This is one of my favorite recipes for this day:

Lamb Chops Vesuvio

1/2 cup olive oil
2 tbs lemon juice
1 tsp oregano
2 tsp garlic salt
lamb chops (4-6)

make more marinade for more chops (works with chicken too!)

Mix first 4 ingredients in a small bowl. Place lamb chops in an oven proof dish. Pour the marinade over the lamb chops, turning to ensure even coating. Bake at 350 ° F for 30-45 minutes until desired level of doneness.

This can also be done nicely on the grill, marinate meat for approximately 1/2 hour prior to grilling to desired doneness.

Suggested sides: Twice baked potatoes, asparagus, or brussels sprouts. Rice Pilaf also makes a nice side for this dish.

Some Spitzer Thoughts

I was watching the news the other day and there was a sound bite from some woman who said that the only reason a man strays is because a man has needs, and those needs are not being met at home.

She also said something about it being the wife’s job to find out what needs she wasn’t meeting in order to then meet those needs and keep him from straying.

What a load of BS.

Wedding vows for the husband don’t generally say something like, “I’ll cleave unto you unless you don’t meet my needs, in which case I’ll go find someone else even if I have to pay for it. All the while exposing you to unknown sexually transmitted diseases and spending our community property in order to satisfy my own selfish ‘needs’.”

Mayhap, if the husband is finding that his “needs” aren’t being met, he might ask the wife how she’s doing, what is going on in her life. Is she overwhelmed? Is she working a full time job, cleaning the house, caring for the children, and cooking dinner every night when she gets home after her hour commute? Could she maybe be feeling a little under appreciated?

Ladies: If your husband strays it is not your fault.

Men: If you feel your “needs” aren’t being met, find out what’s going on with your wife. You may find that a little attention, appreciation, perhaps a small gift, some flowers, a love letter left where she can find it may do wonders. And it can save a lot of money and worry over possible health issues.

Spitzer Resigns

Headlined:

Spitzer resigns after stunning fall from power
N.Y. governor was repeat prostitution customer, may have spent $80,000

New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned on Wednesday, completing a stunning fall from power after he was nationally disgraced by links to a high-priced prostitution ring.

“I cannot allow for my private failings to disrupt the people’s work,” he said with his wife at his side at his Manhattan office. “I’m deeply sorry that I did not live up to what was expected of me.”

My question is: If this was going on while he was Attorney General, does it affect any of his prosecutions?

Monday Morning Musings

Who would want to be Hillary Clinton’s Vice President? Constitutionally, the Vice President has two functions. One: back-up if the President becomes incapacitated or dies and two: Serve as President of the Senate to break ties. Any other things that the Vice President does is at the pleasure of the President.

Now how much do you think a President Hillary Clinton will allow a Vice President to do? How much credit do you think a President Hillary Clinton would want to give up? And by giving tasks to a VP, she gives credit for that task to the VP.

Who would want to be number 3 in a second Clinton Administration? And how are we to really know if it’s Bill or Hill in the number 1 position. We’ll know who is officially in that position, but who’s really there?

Flash, Slobokan’s Golden Retriever succumbed to cancer. Slobokan’s written a very touching tribute at his site.

Our condolences Slobokan.

Editorial Disclaimers

Remember back when the Fairness Doctrine ruled and for every editorial opinion on the evening news there was also an editorial response? And remember when both of those had a disclaimer saying something like “The views expressed in the preceding/following are not necessarily the views of this station.”

Now Samantha Power, formerly one of Barack Obama’s foreign policy advisors, tells the Scotsman that Hillary Clinton is a monster (off the record). As it was in the middle of the interview, the Scotsman decided to print it anyway.

Then she apologizes including this statement:

These comments do not reflect my feelings about Sen. Clinton, whose leadership and public service I have long admired.

And I wonder how what she said doesn’t reflect what she feels. It seems a little contradictory.

So taking the old Fairness Doctrine type disclaimer and the apparent contradiction in what Samantha Power said and what Samantha Power said, I came up with a new disclaimer:

The Samantha Power Editorial Disclaimer
The views expressed in this weblog are not necessarily those of the author.

She’s now resigned as well.

Daylight Saving Time

It’s that time once again! clock.gif
Time to “spring ahead” with our clocks! At 2:00 a.m. local time Sunday set your clocks ahead one hour to 3:00 a.m. unless you are in Hawaii, Arizona, or Puerto Rico who don’t participate in Daylight Saving Time.

There is no “s” at the end of Saving by the way. It is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight Savings Time.
