Happy Purim

To all our Jewish friends, Happy Purim!

From the Purim on the Net website:

Purim is the most festive of Jewish holidays, a time of prizes, noisemakers, costumes and treats. The Festival of Purim commemorates a major victory over oppression and is recounted in the Megillah, the scroll of the story of Esther. Purim takes place on the fourteenth and fifteenth days of Adar, the twelfth month of the Jewish calendar. This year (2007) Purim begins at sundown on the 03rd of March

We’re watching For Your Consideration this evening, a movie about the Oscar buzz surrounding three actors in the film Home for Purim, a 1940’s period piece…

Prayer Request

My sister’s mother-in-law, “S” is in the hospital. She had breast cancer, and was in remission, but the cancer has returned and metastasized. It is now lurking everywhere.

Please pray that “S” remains comfortable and can finish all her business in her remaining time with us.

In Like a Lion

March is certainly coming in like a lion this year. I was awakened by a thunder and lightening storm at 3 a.m. this morning the driveway was coated with hail and slush and it’s currently raining with more thunderstorms to come.

A seven-year-old girl was killed in a tornado in Missouri this morning. Our prayers go out to her family and friends.

More tornadoes are possible, blizzards in North Dakota and Minnesota.

The entire saying is

In like a lion, out like a lamb

Hopefully this means that we will be having wonderful weather at the end of March and into April for a wonderful Easter.

The Tomb

So James Cameron of Terminator and Titanic fame is doing a documentary for the Discovery Channel where they say they have found the tomb of Jesus Christ, his mother Mary, his wife Mary, and his son Judah. They say that they have DNA that says that two of the graves are husband and wife and one is a child. Even though there are no bones in the caskets, there’s DNA they say.

This tomb was originally found in 1980 and the caskets are some of 10 that were found then. They say that one says it contains Judah, son of Jesus. That may very well be. The father of the Judah buried there may well have been named Jesus. Judah’s mother may well have been named Mary and his grandmother may have been Mary too. These were all common names.

Why is it that those that seem to have no faith have to spend so much energy trying to debunk Jesus Christ and Christianity? Perhaps because they just can’t stand that Christians not only believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, but we KNOW this to be true. We can’t “prove” how we KNOW this to be true, but we do KNOW it. When you come to Christ, you KNOW this.

John 3:16 (King James Version)

For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life

We KNOW that Jesus was crucified, died and was buried (In the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea), that he descended into hell, and on the third day He rose again where he sits at the right hand of God the Father. (Apostle’s Creed)

The Nicene Creed says much the same thing.

Do they (those without faith) think that those of us WITH faith will look at a documentary like the Gospel of Judas, a movie or book like The DaVinci Code (which is fiction and never pretended to be otherwise) or this new documentary and suddenly say, “Oh, I have been so stupid believing in something that isn’t true!”? They have another thing coming. We who believe, KNOW. It isn’t just belief, faith, it is KNOWLEDGE. We KNOW that God loves us, unworthy as we may be. We KNOW that God sent His Son to us, to die for us, to SAVE us. We KNOW this deep in our hearts, deep in our bones, deep in our souls.

I read The DaVinci Code and I saw the movie, they were entertaining stories. Nothing more, nothing less and my faith was not even nudged. I KNOW that I am saved.

There may be those on the fence that this may persuade to drop off on the non belief side. For those, we pray that they will find the truth. We pray that they will find God by another means.

For those on this side of the fence, there really isn’t much danger that we will suddenly renounce our faith, as I said before, we KNOW.

Our faith seems to frighten those without faith. They really need to disprove the basis of our faith so that they can “prove” themselves right. I think that the thought of something beyond themselves, for those who don’t believe in anything beyond themselves, frightens the heck out of them. What if all those “Christians” are right? What if there is something beyond ourselves and we haven’t acknowledged it? Believed in it? What happens then?

I KNOW that I am saved. Others of faith that I know KNOW that they are saved. This documentary, perhaps interesting, perhaps entertaining, will NOT affect my faith.

Redesign

You may have noticed over the past few days that there’s been a slight redesign of the site. Let me know how it is. Thanks.

John F. Kerry, Where are your records?

He’s announced that he will not seek the Presidency in 2008, but that doesn’t mean we still wouldn’t be interested in seeing his records…

Two years ago today John Kerry promised Tim Russert that he’d sign his SF-180 to release his military records. On May 20, 2005 John Kerry signed the form, but the papers were released to a couple of friendly news outlets and all we really learned was that George Bush’s undergrad grades were better than those of John Kerry…

Cao has quite a bit more as well as the Blogburst!

Whenever he starts howling out back or the tea kettle starts whistling Nikita - Siberian
Raven -Shih Tzu she herds me. She herds me to the stove for the tea kettle and the back door for the Siberian. She’s only 9 inches tall at the shoulder and she pushes me along at mid-calf.
