What She Said

When first discussing Sheryl Crow’s One Sheet to the Wind Global Warming Solution™ with my husband, I mentioned the buses, semis, and cars she uses to go on tour and asked him, “what about the lights, the amps, the speakers, not to mention the transport for the attendees.

Well, my good friend The Anchoress has said it all ever so much better than can. Go. Read.

I had to add this: Terry Keenan of Fox News today said that purchasing carbon offsets was like paying someone to exercise for you. It defeats the purpose. =)) Thank you Terry.

One Year Smoke Free

One year ago I did cold laser acupuncture to quit smoking. I haven’t had a cigarette since that day and haven’t had a desire to have one. I’ve been around smoking, and smokers and still haven’t had one or wanted one.

I would recommend the laser acupuncture to anyone who wants to quit without drugs (or more nicotine) and without the withdrawal symptoms of quitting cold turkey.

My life and my family’s lives are ever so much better since I quit smoking.

I did the math, and the cost of the treatment was about the same as two months’ worth of cigarettes. Every month after that has been money in the bank.

I’ve also cut my carbon emissions by a LOT!

Crazy Week

It is certainly crazy week this week. There was a tragedy and an anniversary of another tragedy and school lock-downs for called in threats, suspicious packages, and other reasons.

I went to pick my older son up from school and all the school buses were in the Home Depot parking lot next door instead of in the circle drive at the school as they usually are. Most of the students were in groups near the road instead of just coming out of the school as they should have been. I pulled into the small parking lot between the Home Depot and the circle drive just as a fire truck and ambulance were arriving with sirens blaring and lights flashing.

He was waiting where he was supposed to be waiting, at the edge of the Home Depot lot. He saw me pull into the regular lot and came running. When he got into the truck he told me that someone had pulled the fire alarm just before school let out. He had his backpack, but his coat was left behind. Ah well, he’ll get it tomorrow.

That situation is not what a  parent wants to see when arriving to pick up a child from school. This has been a very crazy week.

SCOTUS Upholds Partial Birth Abortion Ban

5-4.

(AP/Breitbart)

The 5-4 ruling said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003 does not violate a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion.

Majority: Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Thomas and Kennedy.

If you’ve come that far in a pregnancy and still don’t want to raise the child, you don’t have to. There are plenty of people who will gladly adopt and raise that child as their own.

La Shawn Barber has more, including a link to the pdf of the opinion.

Ann Althouse notes a commenter at Feministe who says get your abortion now because you’ll have one less option later on…

I left a comment there that is similar to what I wrote above, but has a little bit added:

My thought has always been if the mother is healthy enough for partial birth, how is she not healthy enough for full birth. You’re talking about a breech birth of the entire baby except the head with the D&X. Why not just go all the way. If she doesn’t want the baby there are plenty of people who do and will gladly take that child off her hands.
