Christmas Hymn of the Day

Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful)

O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.

Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

O Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,

Sing all that hear in heaven God’s holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning,

O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Adeste fideles,
laeti triumphantes,
Venite, venite in Bethlehem!

Natum videte,
Regem angelorum

Venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus
Dominum.

Christmas Hymn of the Day

O Little Town of Bethlehem
Words: Phillips Brooks, 1867

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars together, proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth!

How silently, how silently, the wondrous Gift is giv’n;
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His Heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.

Where children pure and happy pray to the blessèd Child,
Where misery cries out to Thee, Son of the mother mild;
Where charity stands watching and faith holds wide the door,
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks, and Christmas comes once more.

O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel!

Two New Baby Girls in the Blogosphere

Yesterday morning Mrs BDP at Ankle Biting Pundits gave birth to a beautiful, 7 pound-9 ounce baby girl and last evening our own newton from Hang Right Politics gave birth to a beautiful, 7 pound-15 ounce, 19-1/2 inch long, baby girl!

Congrats to parents and, in BDP’s case, big brothers of these new baby girls. May they give you love and happiness all the days of your lives.

The Anchoress had one and she details it here. Put down your beverage of choice and make sure you’ve swallowed before you click the link.

On the other hand, my Little Guy informed me this morning that he knows who he wants to be when he grows up. He wants to be a bus driver. He said he would come and pick me up and take me where I want to go. And he would live with me. And Daddy too because Daddy will be living with me. And he’ll live with us because he loves us.

Then he changed his mind and he will be a school bus driver instead of a commuter bus driver. A flat front big bus. No. Maybe a little bus so he could park it in the driveway.

He still needs to go to college.

Peter Boyle, R.I.P.

Peter Boyle died today of multiple myeloma and heart problems. Many people know him from Everybody Loves Raymond, but I will always remember him as the Monster in Young Frankenstein.

Our prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends.

This is a photo taken at Pearl Harbor on that day. It is one of several at Snopes.com regarding a story of [tag]photos[/tag] found in a Brownie camera in an old footlocker. The photos are archival and weren’t found in the camera, but are well worth looking at.

Favorite Christmas Song – O Holy Night

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our Friend!
He knows our need—to our weakness is no stranger.
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!
Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!
