musing minds

Sue

We went and saw her at the Field Museum on Friday, the last day of summer before school started. It was also the first day of the Chicago Air & Water Show and waiting for the bus back to the train station we saw some really cool flying by the Blue Angels over the Museum Campus.

Monday Morning Musings

It’s the first day of school. From 8:20 a.m. until 9:55 a.m. – tomorrow starts normal days, until 2:55 p.m.

When I was a kid, we started the day after Labor Day and ended in the middle of June, now they start in the middle of August (it seems earlier in August every year…) and end in May.

Late last Wednesday, early Thursday, I was commenting at a post at Althouse’s about the Los Angeles ban on new fast food places in poor neighborhoods. I started listing the fast (and not so fast) food choices in walking distance and further. There are a lot of food choices in my area.

Walking distance: Popeye’s, Wendy’s, Panera Bread, Jimano’s Pizza, Chili’s, Panda Express, Dunkin Donuts, Applebee’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, McDonald’s, Arby’s, and Subway inside WalMart.

Coming in across the tracks and just a bit farther than WalMart: Jimmy John’s sandwiches, Starbucks, and Little Cesars {pizza pizza}.

Not in my walking distance and the other way down the main drag: A small local chain that sells hot dogs, hamburgers and gyros, Burger King, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s/A&W Root Beer, a Chinese place, KFC, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut, and numerous taquerias. There’s a Domino’s Pizza in there somewhere too.

That’s a lot in a space of about a mile and a half.

Joust

At the Bristol Renaissance Faire we also saw a Royal Joust.

Empty

That’s what this sign says to me…

Also Zero – Sign of Progress…

The Statue That Wasn't

We went to the Bristol Renaissance Faire on Sunday. On our travels through the hamlet of Bristol we came across a curious statue. Early in the day, she was sitting in the dappled sunlight, later on, we found her standing in a different part of her garden…

Retreat

The Anchoress is hosting a week long retreat from politics and the news of the day.

A place to contemplate other, more spiritual things.

A place to find things worth thinking about…

Monday Morning Musings

We needed to replace our can light in the ceiling above the sink. We put in a new can and found this wonderful pendant fixture to put in it. The fixture just screws into the socket like a light bulb. The cord is adjustable for length. We just love it. It bring the light closer to the sink and it just looks beautiful. Thanks to Hubby for climbing up into the hot, dusty, pink insulated attic to put in the new can!

John Edwards Admits Affair With Rielle Hunter

denies fathering the baby girl.

ABC News reports:

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.

Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.

Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby’s birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.
