King Mike

Ed Driscoll points us to a parody commercial starring [tag]Michael Bloomberg[/tag].

There was another shown on The [tag]Daily Show[/tag] that [tag]Brit Hume[/tag] replayed at the end of the show yesterday or the day before. Go to the Daily Show and choose “Couldn’t [tag]Hackett[/tag]” (the “campaign ad” is at the end (3:43)). One quote: “I believe we should take care of our environment. That’s why I’m standing in front of a river.”

Thanks Mr. Right

Mr. Right, over at The Right Place has a great list of blogs in his Frequent Flyers Club (and we thank him for his inclusion of us).

He’s got a copy of that Debbie Stabenow with the poster picture. Go see it.

The Right Place has a lot of funny stuff.

Betsy's Page Temporarily (hopefully) Down

Betsy says to tell you that her site is down due to Evil Blogger and she hopes that they will fix their problem and she’ll be back soon.

She has a few research papers to grade tonight as well, so blogging would be light anyway.

Hopefully she’ll be back soon.

Sirhan Sirhan Up For Parole Again

and the AP says it’s a “potential conflict for Gov. [tag]Arnold Schwarzenegger[/tag], who is married to RFK’s niece.”

It takes them until the fourth paragraph to say that it is highly unlikely that Gov. Schwarzenegger will need to be involved at all.

Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney David Dahle, who will argue the state’s case before the parole board, said there is little chance the decision would fall to the Republican governor. He conceded there is at least the appearance of a conflict.

“Obviously there’s an issue. He’s married to the [tag]Kennedy[/tag] family,” he said. “But he is not a member of the immediate family.”

Mr. Dahle, Arnold Schwarzenegger is not married to the Kennedy family. He has married a woman who is part of the Kennedy family. If he’d married the Kennedy family he’d be polygamous…

The fact that he married someone in the Kennedy family should have absolutely nothing to do with [tag]Sirhan Sirhan[/tag]’s parole.

Earle Tries End-Run, Fails

On December 19th [tag]Ronnie Earle[/tag] got court proceedings placed on hold in [tag]Tom DeLay[/tag]’s trial while Earle appeals the dismissal of the conspiracy charge.

And then he started filing subpoenas in the case.

DeLay gets court to halt, void subpoenas

A Texas appeals court Monday granted Rep. Tom DeLay’s request to stop a prosecutor from filing subpoenas in the former majority leader’s pending money laundering case.

The Third Court of Appeals panel in Austin, Texas, also said that several subpoenas issued by Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle are null and void because DeLay’s trial is on hold.

“Ronnie Earle was abusing his power and getting subpoenas issued by a court that had no jurisdiction,” said Matt Hennessy, one of DeLay’s Houston lawyers.

Hennessy said DeLay asked the court to step in after Earle issued a subpoena for his wife, Christine.

Bryan Case, director of appellate division of the Travis County district attorney’s office, said Earle’s office respects and will abide by the court’s decision.

“We have issued these subpoenas in order to be ready for trial in a timely manner,” Case said.

They issued the subpoenas to be ready for trial in a timely manner. Yeah, right. We believe you.

Earle asked for, and received, a halt in the trial so he could appeal dismissal of a charge, consequently impinging on Tom DeLay’s right to a speedy trial, and then he tried to use the time he was getting to further his “case” against Tom DeLay.

Good on the court to see it for what it was.

Wednesday is Eat An Animal for PETA Day

March 15 (the Ides of March) is [tag]Eat An Animal for PETA Day[/tag]. I am personally making this Eat An Animal for Peta Week…

Monday Lamb Chops Vesuvio
Pre-heat oven to 350°F
Marinade:
½ cup olive oil
2 teaspoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon oregano
mix ingredients well
place 4 lambchops in an ovenproof dish (I use a glass 8 x 8 cake pan)
cover lambchops with marinade, making sure to coat all sides
Place in 350°F oven for about 30 minutes
Tuesday Schweineschnitzel
4 (6-ounce) pork cutlets
Salt and freshly ground -pepper to taste Flour for dredging
1 Egg
1 teaspoon Water
1 c Fresh bread crumbs
4 tablespoons Butter or margarine
Lemon wedges (for garnish)
Pound the cutlets until thin. Sprinkle lightly on both sides with salt and pepper. Dredge them lightly but thoroughly in flour.
Beat the egg lightly with the water and dip the floured cutlets in the mixture; coat with crumbs. Using the side of a kitchen knife, press the cutlets lightly so the crumbs will adhere well to the meat.
Heat the butter in a large skillet and, when it is hot but not brown or smoking, saute the cutlets in it until they are golden brown on both sides.
Wednesday
Eat An Animal for PETA Day
Easy Pot Roast
3-4 pound Chuck Roast
package of dry onion soup mix
heavy duty aluminum foil (you need enough to completely wrap and seal the meat, or to tightly cover a low sided oven proof pan large enough to hold the meat)
Put the meat on the foil or in the pan
Sprinkle the whole package of onion soup mix evenly over the top
Wrap and/or seal
Place in a 350°F oven for about 2 hours.
Thursday Jerky Turkey Patties
Use either ground turkey and make your own patties, or use frozen turkey patties.
Heat about 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet
Place turkey patties in pan and cook about 3 minutes, flip patties
sprinkle Caribbean Jerk seasoning to taste on the cooked side, cook about 3 minutes more and flip again…
Sprinkle newly cooked side with Jerk seasoning and cook for about 3 more minutes or until inside is white.
Friday
Saint Patrick’s Day!
Corned Beef and Cabbage
4 cups hot water
1 large or 2 medium onions, cut into wedges
1 3-lb. corned beef round or brisket, packaged with spices
8 small white or yellow potatoes, scrubbed and cut into quarters
1 head of green cabbage (about 1 1/2 lbs.), cored and cut into 10 wedges
lemon wedges (for garnish – and it adds great flavor to the corned beef on your plate…)
Place the corned beef in the water in the slow cooker. Add onions and scatter the potatoes over the top and along the sides.
Cover and cook on the High heat setting 4 hours. Remove the lid and scatter the cabbage wedges over the top. Cover and continue cooking on High 3 to 4 hours longer, or until the beef is tender. To serve, carve the beef into slices and serve with the cabbage and potatoes, with some of the cooking liquid spooned on top of the beef to keep it moist.

Slobokan’s Site O’Schtuff is also talking about Eat An Animal for PETA Day today… And I must thank him for the inline trackback and pingbacks plugin that he devised. It works great!
