New Site

Please go visit Take Back Our Seat.

The US Senate seat from Illinois belongs to the people and is not for sale.

I have an appointment I have to go to and will come back later with video and a transcript.

I am looking for other contributors from both sides of the aisle. And you don’t have to be from Illinois. New York’s Junior Senate seat should be filled by the people as well.

Heartfelt Condolences

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sissy Willis and Tuck on the loss of their Baby Cakes. “Just a cat”, is never the proper response. Our companions are more than just a cat, or a dog, or a bird, or a ferret or any other animal that shares our home. Baby was, and his sister Tiny is, a member of the household just as much as their humans are.

Our companions know when we aren’t feeling well, be it physically or psychically, and they try to make us feel better. Poor Tiny doesn’t know why her brother is gone or why her “Mom” and “Dad” are feeling so bad. But she’ll try to make them feel better.

Please go ahead and read the other posts Sissy has posted as well.

We have three cats, our tiny little Bitsy; 11 years old and the size of a six month old kitten, Liath (pronounced Leah – Gaelic for gray) who is our own Tiny and Baby look-alike although she’s short haired, and Duncan Idaho; our silly boy who kept climbing the Christmas tree when he was a baby. We call him Mini-Me because he looks a bit like our other boy, Nikita the Siberian Husky. And we can’t forget our Shih-Tzu Raven or the newest adoptee Sunshine the Cockatiel who showed up on our doorstep in early September.

Sissy and Tuck, our heartfelt condolences are sent to you with hugs.

Dave Barry's Year in Review

is here.

How weird a year was it?

Here’s how weird:
• O.J. actually got convicted of something.

• Gasoline hit $4 a gallon — and those were the good times.

• On several occasions, Saturday Night Live was funny.

Go read the rest.

Monday Morning Musings

My cousin and his wife had their third baby, her fifth, Saturday night. Happy birthday Avery! She was born C-Section because she was breech, but is a happy, healthy 10 pounds 7 ounces, 20 inches long.

Yesterday was a CSI marathon on Spike. There were commercials for My Bloody Valentine 3-D “Because nothing says ‘date movie’ like a ride to hell.” Opens January 16th! It actually looks like it might be neat.

There was an ad at from Chrysler thanking America for investing in Chrysler. That when 66% of Americans were against a bailout. I was especially against a bailout of Chrysler. Why should America invest in private company Chrysler when their own holding company Cerebrus refused to? Keep your thanks Chrysler. If it were up to me you wouldn’t have received a dime.

We had a great Christmas. Lots of family and fun. The kids loved their presents. Little Guy built a radio with his Snap Circuits 300 kit.

Lots of movies, old and new. Memphis Belle, Tora, Tora, Tora, Hellboy, Hellboy II, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Prince Caspian, and Horton Hears a Who.

Now it’s time to get ready for the New Year!

Angels We Have Heard On High (Gloria)

Angels We Have Heard On High

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

A Child is Born

Luke 2: 10-11

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Merry Christmas to all!

Christmas Song of the Day

A really beautiful one: Mary Did You Know?

Mary, did you know?

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby
You’ve kissed the face of God

Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the lamb

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven’s perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding
Is the great I AM

Monday Morning Musings

My favorite Christmas Hymn: O Holy Night

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our Friend!
He knows our need-to our weakness is no stranger.
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!
Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!

Snow Day

About 11:40 CST last night the snow started falling.

It’s still falling.

Today was to be the last day of school before Christmas Break.

Today is now the first day of Christmas Break. Kids are happy.

I’m glad I got the presents wrapped earlier in the week.

snowdayWe need a new flag too, and bring the old one to the VFW for proper disposal.

Unless Global Warming hits big time in the next few days, I think we’re pretty much guaranteed a White Christmas!
