Standard Time

October 24, 2008 – 7:23 am by kimsch

Is NOT this weekend. The last Sunday in October used to be the date to come off Daylight Saving Time, but it’s been changed. For this year, and future years, Daylight Saving Time ends on the first Sunday in November.

Around here some towns have Trick or Treating for Halloween this Sunday from 1-5. Others have it on Halloween day itself. With the change in the end of Daylight Saving Time to the first Sunday in November, there’s just a little more light in the early evening for the children to go trick or treating.

Daylight Saving Time will start up again on the 8th of March, the second Sunday in March.

  1. I hate towns that reschedule Trick or Treat “for the chiillllldren”. It’s such a slippery slope since it helps people get comfortable with the idea that *everything* can be rearranged, so long as there’s a seemingly good excuse for it.

This year in particular seems stupid. Halloween’s on a Friday, so who cares if the kids stay up a bit later to Trick or Treat?

I think that part of the reason is that many moms are working now too. When we were kids, moms stayed home and we could go trick or treating after school. When we got older, we could go out after dinner… Now, with so many two income households, smaller kids may be in after school care until 6 pm. Sunday afternoon does work.
